BIG RISE IN ONLINE HOLIDAY SCAMS
There were nearly 6,000 cases of holidaymakers being scammed in 2016 – a rise of 19 per cent – according to Action Fraud. Victims lost £7.2 million in total, an average of £1,200 per person. Fraudsters are targeting people by setting up fake websites selling flights and accommodation, using online adverts to lure their victims. The majority of victims pay by bank transfers or cash, meaning they don’t get their money back.
