Smart Security Camera
This runs off a built-in battery that you’ll need to charge a few times a year. Compared to the Netgear Arlo’s single-use batteries, it’ll save you a few quid. Like the Arlo (see Alternatives box), it can go outdoors, with supplied wall mounts. No base unit is required, and Swann’s Safe app worked well. Motion detection is via passive infra-red, not image analysis, so you can’t set zones, but we found the options adequate. When triggered, video is recorded to the camera itself (rotating over seven days) as well as online, where it’s stored free for 48 hours (30 days is £50 a year extra). Picture quality was good day and night, except when shooting into the sun.
VERDICT: Not as smart as some, but you can put it anywhere and it stores footage both locally and online, making it a versatile choice ★★★★☆
