Plant Of The Month: Aster x frikartii ‘Monch’

Cornwall Life - - GARDEN MASTERCLASS -

The trouble with most Michaelmas Daisies is that they are either tall and floppy or plagued with white and powder-like mildew.

Not Aster x frikartii ‘Monch’. This robust knee-high hybrid shrugs off disease and best of all blooms from June right through until late November. The flowers are bigger than the norm – up to an inch and half wide – and thanks to their pale lavender colouring appear to glow ever brighter as the day lengths shorten. Good in pots or as a border edger plant in any ordinary garden soil in sunshine. Lovely with other late summer flowering perennials such as Rudbeckia, Echinacea and grasses too.
