Caroline Cleave, Rachael Osborne and Rebecca Harvey

As if you need any excuse to head to Polzeath, this month its charms are greatly emboldened by The Finer Detail at Whitewater Gallery.

The exhibition features three artists working in three mediums: painter Caroline Cleave, award winning silversmith Rachael Osborne and ceramicist Rebecca Harvey.

Caroline Cleave works from her valley studio in Port Isaac, creating works that celebrate the beautiful, yet often overlooked details of our coastal landscape. Among her work you will find subjects as diverse as sustainable fishing, lobsters, crabs, stonewalls, hedgerows and wildflowers. Her work can also be seen at Nathan Outlaw’s Michelin starred restaurant in Port Isaac.

Rachael Osborne makes sculptural tableware at her North Cornwall studio. Working on a customised potter’s wheel, she throws both clay and metal to create work inspired by the natural forms and textures of the Cornish coast. Ceramicist Rebecca Harvey studied at the Royal College of Art. Her interest in 18th century Creamware, Japanese ceramics and 1920s Enamelware is translated in her work into a strong but simple sense of these ceramic traditions. Her elegant porcelain pieces for the table consider both form and function, and are finished in soft satin glazes, while subtle traces of the maker’s hand are left on their glowing, translucent surfaces.
