If you thought autumn was the time to put away your walking boots, think again!
This month the South West Coast Path Association is gearing up for a whole month of exciting events to get you out on the path raising money to protect one of our best loved National Trails.
Now in its fourth year running, the
South West Coast Path Challenge is a month-long celebration of the region’s coastline brought to you by the South West Coast Path Association, in partnership with the National Trust. This year, all money raised will count towards the association’s #40FOR40 appeal that aims to raise £40,0000 by the end of October to mark the 40th anniversary of the coast path.
It costs at least £1,000 to maintain just one mile of coast path, plus an additional £2,000 for the National Trust to take care of the land that surrounds it. Over the past five years, there has been a 30 per cent cut in the core budget to maintain the trail, making the work of the association even more important to lobby for improvements and raise funds to keep the path open.
From flaming torchlit night-hikes and fascinating history walks, to trail running challenges and coastal foraging, there is something to inspire everyone to give back to the path this October! You can also choose to organise your own walk, event or personal challenge simply by registering on the charity’s website where you can also download a handy fundraising pack.
To sign up for an event head to southwestcoastpath.org.uk/challenge. Events start from as little as £6 per adult with many free for children to attend. You can also choose to donate, fundraise or buy a discounted official South West Coast Path t-shirt to help the association reach its target.
