Never mind the rain gauges this sum­mer, the lo­cals on the Isles of Scilly have been anx­iously watch­ing the wells

The cast had of­fered to plough on, but the au­di­ence was com­pletely drenched (as were the cast and cos­tumes). Shame.

On a per­sonal level this has been a truly mem­o­rable sum­mer – our mid­dle son mar­ried the girl of his dreams (yes, it turned out she did ex­ist) in the City of Lon­don, and the farmer and I hired a house­boat near Tower Bridge which be­came the wed­ding hub be­fore and af­ter. Lucky I’m in ca­ter­ing…

Shortly af­ter that, also in Lon­don, our el­dest son and his wife had twin girls. What a joy. One is named af­ter my daugh­terin-law’s favourite fic­tional
