COLYTON TRAM STATION
Simeon Stafford is one of the country’s leading naive artists creating work that purposely creates a world of childish simplicity with the power to renew and refresh the viewer.
Simeon moved to Cornwall in the early 1990s from his home town ‘up North’ following a successful business career. But painting and composing music were always his passion and since moving to the South West his paintings have become sought after and are now in private collections worldwide. The Queen is among his collectors: she has one of his paintings of The Mall.
Stand in front of one of Simeon’s paintings and it’s easy to see why. You can’t help but smile and be transported into a world of undiluted happiness where skipping ropes, donkey rides, beach huts and fishingboats surround you; in our ever challenging world Simeon’s world is a ‘nice place to be’.
Simeon has held numerous exhibitions in the South West and further afield. In Cornwall you may have seen his work at New Craftsmen Gallery and he is currently on show over the border at the Marine House Gallery in Beer. Simeon’s work will also be on show this month as part of the South West Academy’s annual show featuring more than 350 artworks at Exeter Castle this month. Expect the best practitioners of fine and applied arts with varied practices, backgrounds and styles.
