Cof­fee, then break­fast? Or, worse, cof­fee for break­fast? You may think all that caf­feine makes you more pro­duc­tive, but hav­ing it on an empty stom­ach spikes the stress hor­mones cor­ti­sol and adren­a­line,

The hack: Our bod­ies re­lease cor­ti­sol first thing to help us wake up – add cof­fee to that, and you get a stress spike. Save that flat white for af­ter your body has pro­cessed its resid­ual cor­ti­sol; if you wake be­tween 6am and 8am, that’s just af­ter 9.30am. It’s a tech­nique used by Twit­ter CEO Jack Dorsey, who med­i­tates, works and then has his cof­fee.
