Kevin Murphy Bedroom Hair, £22

This Aussie contender is the lightest of the lot, so not The One if you want Kate Moss circa 2007 Glasto texture. But if you’re after a subtly dishevelled look, and like to eke out the time between hair washes, it’s bonzer!

Hair By Sam McKnight Cool Girl, £25

This barely-there mist took my lank, end-of-the-week hair into undone territory with minimal teasing. Like Kev’s offering, its effects are on the subtle side, but my nostrils approved of the lingering fresh scent.

Editor’s pick... Evo Shebang-a-bang Dry Spray Wax, £19.95

*New favourite hair brand klaxon!* This gimmick-free product takes the scary out of wearing wax, delivering a fine mist that allows uniform hair to be mussed-up and moulded without looking loaded down with product. Cool name, too.

Lee Stafford Lived In Spray, £3.99

Firstly: what a bargain. Secondly: great pump action (each spritz distributes the perfect amount of mist). Thirdly: hello, volume! (Work in and push through your roots.) The only down side? Its dryer texture didn’t do much for my flyaways.

Color Wow Style On Steroids, £20

Sitting closer to hairspray on the product scale, this enhances and sets sexy heat-styled tousles really well. OK, so it’s not got the same field-of-flowers scent as the others, but it contains sci-fi-sounding micro-zeolites (absorbent minerals) for added oomph. The result: out-of-this-world hair. A close second.
