A few of my favourite things

Cotswold Life - - COTSWOLD WEDDINGS -

Gloucestershire-based photographer Nikki Kirk loves shooting weddings. Here she shares from her own work a picture that makes her chuckle, a show-stealing dog, one of her favourite photographs, lovely moments from a day, shoes she wanted to pinch, a guest whose company she enjoyed, and a romantic first dance.

My favourite moment is when I take the couple away from the chaos of the day to take their photographs. This is when the photographer/client relationships that we build really come into their own. My couples are able to relax which is how I get these intimate romantic photographs. The relationships I build with my clients means that I can suggest creative photography that is personal to them like this shot of Lisa and Karl; Boots & Ballet Shoes. Spending the time gave me the inside information that allowed me to suggest and take this image.

I have favourite photographs from every wedding I shoot however this one stands out as it was technically challenging, we had minutes and it was below freezing. This won a Silver Bar from the Guild of Photographers. It has everything; romance, intimacy, and that special magical quality.

This photograph was taken just at the end of their first dance; they are completely lost in each other and the music, it’s as if they are the only ones there; it gives me goosebumps.

Nikki Kirk pictured with a bride and groom

The fabulous Jake who stole everyone’s hearts at his parents’ wedding, and nearly stole the show.

This one just makes me chuckle! During the receiving line this little girl saw the bride and she looks so taken aback, it’s like a baby’s way of saying ‘wow’!

I am a massive shoe queen so shoes are my thing. I love these shoes, simple and elegant but the colour on them pops.
