BRINGING HISTORY TO LIFE
Two of the country’s top historians Janina Ramirez and Guy de la Bédoyère will be speaking as part of Abbey 900 at Cirencester Parish Church. Known as The Winstone Talks, the two events are sponsored by The K D Winstone Charitable Trust and are held in partnership with the Gloucester History Festival and the Corinium Museum.
Janina Ramirez Abbey Life Uncovered What was life really like at a Medieval Abbey? To celebrate the 900th anniversary of Cirencester’s Abbey of St Mary, audiences are being offered an entertaining insight into the role the Abbey played in everyday city life. How did the monks live? What did they eat? How did they help the townsfolk? Oxford historian Janina Ramirez, presenter of BBC Four’s Saints and Sinners: Britain’s Millennium of Monasteries and with Alastair Sooke An Art Lovers’ Guide, lifts the lid on monastic life to show a reality rather different from what we often think.
