It’s October and the start of a new Jump season
October can only mean one thing in the world of Jump racing. It signifies that racing is back at Cheltenham Racecourse, the jewel in this sport’s crown. After almost half a year of silence in terms of pounding hooves, The Showcase Meeting on October 26 and 27 heralds the start of the 2018/19 season – a season of anticipation, excitement and quality racing.
As top trainers and owners enter the winter months, they will bring their promising equestrian stars to this stunning ampitheatre for a weekend which now attracts over 30,000 people.
“There’s a real buzz about it as it’s the first meeting for almost six months and everybody looks forward to the season ahead,” says Sophia Dale, communications manager for the Jockey Club’s south west region.
“It is so exciting to see everyone returning. It’s personally one of my favourite times of the year as the season starts to get into flow, leading up to November’s meeting, News Year’s Day and through to The Festival. There’s anticipation in the air, it’s great!”
With The Showcase, as in all meetings, bars and restaurants will be open to suit all palates throughout the day. And returning this year will be the popular Soglos Showcase Zone which is a celebration of all the finest products Gloucestershire and the West have to offer. This takes place in the Centaur and provides racegoers the chance to indulge in unique shopping, interactive demonstrations and sample quality food and drink produced across the region.
“It’s a great way to complement the exhilarating sporting action taking place outside,” adds Sophia.
“In The Centaur, it’s a showcase of everything that is good about this area, from artisan crafts to stunning culinary creations.”
As racegoers enjoy the 14 races over The Showcase weekend, for the first time the ITV presenting crew will be based at the racecourse, delivering live action from the Home of Jump Racing. For the past two years, the television company has been reporting on the event, but Saturday, October 26, will see presenters at the famous ground itself.
It also marks the fourth season of the racecourse’s newest grandstand, The Princess Royal Stand, which opened in 2015 as part of a £45 million redevelopment programme.
As The Showcase gets underway, it signals the official start of the 2018/19 season here at Cheltenham which always promises the perfect day out with its winning mix of world-class sporting action, great hospitality packages, entertainment, top-class food and drink outlets and the chance to back the winner of the day.
