Country Homes & Interiors - - OUT AND ABOUT -

With a history dating back more than 300 years and an isolated setting near Minchinhampton, the Ragged Cot has expertly kept its history alive while fully embracing modern style and comforts.

enjoy a little luxury The nine double rooms are kitted out with mod-cons and home comforts, such as a strong wi-fi connection and Cole & Lewis toiletries. Down in the restaurant and bar, the decor is in keeping with the inn’s past with a deep-set fireplace, stone walls and flagstone flooring; while floor-toceiling windows, an impressive food menu and a newly heightened ceiling add a contemporary touch.

get spooked A number of ghost sightings have been reported in the Ragged Cot, making this a fitting location for a Halloween break. Guests often report seeing the ghosts of a mother and child, and hearing the sounds of a horse-drawn stagecoach. The story goes that Bill Clavers, the landlord in 1760, was in a drunken stupor when he decided to rob a passing stagecoach. In his rush outside, he knocked his wife and child down the stairs, killing them. He then hid their bodies in an old oak trunk before getting sentenced to death himself. Whether there’s any truth in this we don’t know, but it makes for a chilling Halloween tale!

spend time outdoors If ghost stories make you a tad nervous, then step outside to explore the
