Country House Magazine - - Moodboard -

Although some of you may already be familiar with Highclere Castle as the prestigious setting of the period drama series Downton Abbey, the present owner Lady Carnarvon has been determined to open the archives and tell the true history of the house. In her latest book, she chooses the period 1866 to 1936, and takes the reader through real-life weekends telling the story from the perspective of the guests, the hosts, and the staff. And they were no ordinary guests - the future King Edward VII being one. Lady Carnarvon seeks to give us a glimpse of what life really would have been like, and so takes us through the menus, the recipes and the conversations that would have been had at those historic times. You may feel that the book gives added credibility to Downton Abbey!
