Green lacewing

Chrysopa carnea, wingspan of 13⁄16in

The striking green lacewing has a long slender body, a small head with large eyes, long antennae and translucent, delicately veined, lace-like wings, which act as sensors when pursuing aphids and nectar at night. It hibernates as an adult, venturing into our homes, where it turns a pinkish-brown. Simon Lester
