Any­one spend­ing the bank hol­i­day on the Isle of Wight should make time to visit the gar­den of Mor­ton Manor, where they will find im­mac­u­late ter­races, a se­ries of ponds and sweep­ing lawns shaded by a host of ma­jes­tic trees and a fine col­lec­tion of ac­ers. Sur­round­ing a pic­turesque 16th-cen­tury manor house (not open), much of the gar­den is in neat Arts-and-crafts style and the fault­less stan­dard of main­te­nance em­pha­sises the sat­is­fy­ing com­po­si­tion into which a rich va­ri­ety of plant­ing is wo­ven.
