A nightgown can be terrifying to behold

Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

THE scarecrow feature by John Lewis-stempel (August 3) reminded me of my early days, when I was five and began to garden. My first scarecrow was made from an old broom dressed in a nightgown —they have improved over the years. I had to beg for many old coats. Passers-by have offered me cash for an old Harris tweed jacket. Last year, I was offered £20 for a much-loved Barbour jacket. This year, I made a flock of birds from tweed and brown velvet. They twirl in the wind on their willow sticks and have saved all my peas. Maggie Dillon-godfray, Gloucestershire
