Where heroes were made

Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

JOHN STEWART’S letter (Letters, August 31) is a timely reminder of the role of Arisaig House (August 24) as a Special Operations Executive (SOE) training school. This is where Jozef Gabcík and Jan Kubiš prepared for Operation Anthropoid, which resulted in the death in Prague in 1942 of Reinhard Heydrich, so-called Reichsprotektor of Bohemia and Moravia.

There is a memorial to the Czech and Slovak agents of the SOE at Arisaig and the press has recently reported moves to recover the remains of Gabcík and Kubiš from a mass grave and to give them a heroes’ resting place. Sean Ellis’s new feature film Anthropoid is due for release in the UK on September 9. Lord Stewart, by email
