The far­rier ar­rives. He’s lis­ten­ing to Home Front, the daily drama se­rial about the First World War. His great­grand­fa­ther was killed at the Somme. I know it’s time for my sand­wich lunch with a Ther­mos of cof­fee when from the cab ra­dio comes that fa­mil­iar tune: ‘Dun dah dun dah dun dah dah’. I set­tle in for the re­peat of last night’s The Archers. With its top­i­cal sto­ry­lines, it’s a sort of agri­cul­tural col­lege of the air­waves, so I spend the af­ter­noon pon­der­ing Adam’s no-till ce­re­als while plough­ing.
