Land your 2017 fishing now
One of the most tempting lots in the Salmon & Trout Conservation UK’S annual charity auction, for which online bidding opened this week, has to be a brilliant coloured bronze of a kingfisher (right), that’s been donated by sculptor Geoffrey Jackson and with a reserve of £4,500. Starting prices for fishing lots vary from £60 for a day on the Lark in Suffolk to £400 for the Upper Test on the Middleton estate in Hampshire. There’s fishing on the Kennet, Dove, Usk, Deveron, Derwent, Border Esk and Test, plus woodcock shooting in North Wales and blackcock lekking in Weardale.
Online bidding closes on October 16 (www.salmon-trout.org). Last year, the auction and annual dinner raised £70,000 and it’s hoped to find significantly more this time to support scientific research as the charity doesn’t receive Government funding.
