Our family tree
AFTER reading the article on the majestic oak tree (September 14), I thought I would share the following. Thirty years ago, the children and I planted an acorn. It grew steadily until, after a year or two, it was eaten by the goat. However, in the spring, new shoots appeared on the wavy stem and we fed and watered it with renewed enthusiasm.
When we moved house, the young tree came with us and was planted at the end of the garden. I told the children that, one day, we would all sit beneath it and have tea and cake. We do so now, together with our five grandchildren. Sarah Allen, Somerset
