Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

IN our garden this July and August, we had a big hatch of red admiral butterflies, silver-washed fritillaries and some painted ladies and commas, but no tortoiseshells and very few peacocks. Now, with fair weather and many flowering sedums that would usually be covered in peacocks, red admirals and tortoiseshells, we have only the odd white plus a huge quantity of bumblebees. Has anyone else noticed an absence of many butterfly species this summer? The Editor Replies: Could it be the weather? (page 33) Jonathan Reeves, Radnorshire
