As rare as his cattle

Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

WHAT a pleasant surprise to see Eric Freeman and his magnificent Gloucester cattle (right) in COUNTRY LIFE (September 21). I remember him distinctly, enjoying his 15 minutes of fame during an episode of Two Fat Ladies, when they admired— and eventually ate—his other rare breed, the Gloucester Old Spot pig. I was so interested that I decided to find out more about this man, who, it turns out, has also reintroduced wassailing in Gloucestershire and revived the pre-victorian tradition of Harvest Home on his farm.

It strikes me that this saver and reviver of rare breeds and farming traditions is something of a rare breed himself. Paul Metcalfe, East Yorkshire
