Horticultural aide memoire No. 44: Protect precious plants
Those horticultural treasures that you fear may not survive the winter should be attended to now. Moveable specimens in pots can be shunted into a frost-free glasshouse. Plants can be wrapped in fleece and nets, but this can never be a thing of beauty for the next few months. Dahlias and suspect perennials can often be left in the ground provided the tops are cut down and covered with sheltering material, such as coarse bark. A cloche will provide occasional protection.
