The war of the wasps

IN response to the letter from Jenny de Robeck (‘Waspish behaviour’, October 19), the children’s book The White Admiral by H. E. Bates was published in 1968. It features a war between wasps and butterflies, with the latter aided by moths, dragonflies and other insects—of course, the butterflies won! In conclusion, I can only assume that Bates had certainly witnessed such an attack in real life. Charles Barton, Fyllingsdalen, Norway
