Range Rover reborn

Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

FURTHER to your article on off-road driving at Eastnor (October 19), I actually own Maj Hervey-bathurst’s first Range Rover (above). Apparently, Land Rover was so pleased that the Major allowed it to test the products on his estate that it gave him one of the first batch of 20, built in February 1970. I understand that at least 20 vehicles from the first and second batches have been found and restored. I discovered mine, known as ‘The Major’, through the Range Rover Register in 1996—it was a complete rust bucket, but, with help from a few very clever friends, I spent six months rebuilding it from the chassis up.
