Wall paint­ings re­dis­cov­ered

IAM a vol­un­teer at the Guild Chapel in Strat­ford-up­on­avon, said to be one of Europe’s most im­por­tant sur­viv­ing late-me­dieval Guild Chapels, and the Strat­ford Town Trust has now started restor­ing the wall paint­ings (right). These paint­ings, which are huge and ex­ten­sive, were cov­ered up fol­low­ing or­ders given to Shake­speare’s fa­ther in the 16th cen­tury, but, hav­ing been dis­cov­ered be­neath lay­ers of lime­wash, are recog­nised as some of the finest in Europe.
