Help with Hennell

Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

IAM currently writing a book about Thomas Hennell (1903–1945), but one of the artist’s original works is proving difficult to find. It’s a signed watercolour of his home, Orchard Cottage (above) in Ridley, Kent, which Hennell painted in 1938. This much-loved base was where he worked and entertained friends including Edward Bawden, Eric Ravilious, Graham Sutherland and Paul Nash. The picture was sold at auction by Duke’s of Dorset on July 7, 2005, but a record of the buyer no longer exists. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who might know its whereabouts at jessicakilburn@hot Jessica Kilburn, London
