THE re­cently pub­lished Vol­ume 84 of The Pa­pers of the Bri­tish School at Rome is full of gems of schol­ar­ship, rang­ing from The Pa­pacy and Byzan­tium in the Sev­enth and Early Eight-cen­tury Sec­tions of the Liber Pon­tif­i­calis to Cae­sar’s Aims in North­east Italy. Although fas­ci­nat­ing, these only hint at the ex­traor­di­nar­ily wide-rang­ing ac­tiv­i­ties—both aca­demic and artis­tic—of the school.
