OVER the next five years, rental rates will rise considerably faster than house prices due to ‘post-referendum economic uncertainty’, say Savills. A rent increase of 19% is forecast between now and 2021 across the UK, but house prices will rise by just 13%. London landlords will be particularly pleased, as rent is set to rise by 24.5% in the capital, and house prices by 10.9%.

Good week for… agile octogenarians

To celebrate her 80th birthday, daring Dr Rachel Mackenzie will jump headlong out of a plane for Devon Air Ambulance. ‘My mother is a one off,’ explains James Mackenzie, partner and head of country at Strutt & Parker. ‘As a doctor, she ran a mission in the Kalahari desert, she evaded hurricanes in the British Virgin Islands, she saved Vietnamese boat people on the Borneo coast and was once almost shot in Nigeria. She has won the COUNTRY LIFE crossword many times and is an excellent artist to boot!’ The skydive will take place on January 14, 2017.
