Let’s get to the point

-

IN fact, it is Dr Arthur Smith who has chosen to miss my points (Letters, November 2 and 16)—my comment about Hinkley was financial, not technical. Rather than simply buying foreign expertise outright, we appear to have sold most of the project—and much of its post-completion control—to French and Chinese contractors and investors. This may have reduced the short-term outlay, but my second point was that the cash ‘saved’ is to be squandered on the vanity project HS2, an unworthy recipient. My third point—that unnecessary mass movement should not be encouraged—was missed altogether. Kit Rae-scott, Devon
