Culture comes in many guises

Country Life Every Week - - Athena - Cultural Crusader

AS the proud owner of a 1967 Sunbeam Alpine—pale blue with tan-leather upholstery and kept in a garage in Greece, if you must know—athena was more than delighted to be invited, a few months ago, to the annual general meeting of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs.

The FBHVC, as we retro petrolheads call it, brings together almost all the vintage vehicle owners’ clubs in the kingdom with a combined membership of nearly 250,000. Although dwarfed by the Brobdingnagian 4.5 million who belong to the National Trust, this figure helps to illustrate just how many Britons are actively involved in one aspect or another of our heritage.
