Horticultural aide memoire No. 50: Bring flowers indoors
A walk round your garden will reveal surprising numbers of plants in flower. You might as well bring a selection indoors to brighten up the table. Some are scented, a special treat. Viburnum tinus can generally be relied on, with sober evergreen foliage and sprays of white flowers. Take your pick from seasonal blooms: the Christmas box, Sarcococca, should afford some sweet shoots, as might winter honeysuckles such as Lonicera Winter Beauty. The mixture can be beefed up with some good foliage, such as Elaeagnus or Portugal laurel, and each year brings unexpected flowers in the dead of the year.
