AVING re­cently joined the Let­ter Box Study Group (LBSG) while re­search­ing a talk on the post­boxes in our small ru­ral par­ish, I was de­lighted to see the ar­ti­cle in the re­cent is­sue of COUN­TRY LIFE (‘Wait a minute, Mr Post­man’, De­cem­ber 7). We are for­tu­nate to have vol­un­tary groups such as the LBSG that doc­u­ment these im­por­tant pieces of Bri­tish ‘street fur­ni­ture’.

Your piece on the Edward VIII coins (Town & Coun­try, De­cem­ber 7) re­minded me of the rather rare Edward VIII post boxes (above). There is one of these fairly close to where I live, but it isn’t done to dis­close the lo­ca­tion, as there are so few still in use. Dr Geral­dine Per­riam, Balder­nock
