Bowls are better
IHAVE just devoured my copy of COUNTRY LIFE. The article on mugs caught my eye (November 23) and I wondered where this leaves folk who like to enjoy their coffee in a bowl, the Continental way—or am I alone in this flight of fancy?
My adopted father was Swiss and started us using bowls, as he always said the coffee could ‘breathe’ and it made the drink more mellow. To my mind, using a bowl for coffee gives a fuller flavour than using a cup or mug. To those readers who have never tried it, I can really recommend it.
Special coffee bowls are available, although my favourite, in oatmeal and powder-blue colours, was potted here in Ullapool by a local craftsman—beautiful and tactile, it’s a coffee-drinker’s dream. Vicky Schilling, Ross-shire
