Tak­ing back the hum­ble acre

NOW that Brexit is mov­ing ahead, can we put COUN­TRY LIFE at the fore­front of a cam­paign to con­firm the acre as the true unit of land mea­sure in these is­lands? The acre is the unit of com­mon par­lance, used in Amer­ica and by all the mag­a­zine’s ad­ver­tis­ers. OK, it’s not log­i­cal, but if we want log­i­cal, we should start with the English lan­guage it­self. It also has a good ring to it—who­ever heard of God’s lit­tle hectare?
