Launch­ing the sea­son at the Grand The­atre in Leeds on Jan­uary 21 is Rim­sky-ko­r­sakov’s charm­ing rar­ity The Snow Maiden, fol­lowed on Fe­bru­ary 2 by Humperdinck’s be­witch­ing Hansel and Gre­tel and, on the 16th, Rossini’s ef­fer­ves­cent Cin­derella. This promis­ing blend of 19th-cen­tury ro­mance and 21st-cen­tury imag­i­na­tion, per­formed by stel­lar casts, con­tin­ues in Leeds un­til Fe­bru­ary 25, then tours to New­cas­tle, Sal­ford Quays, Belfast and Not­ting­ham un­til March 25 (0844 848 2720; www.op­er­a­north.co.uk)
