Typ­i­cally work­ing for the equiv­a­lent of 14 hours a week for one year in an ac­cred­ited gar­den, un­der the in­struc­tion of the owner or head gar­dener, and keep­ing a log of their work, trainees are paid the hourly Na­tional Liv­ing Wage and are re­spon­si­ble for their own trans­port, tax and Na­tional In­sur­ance con­tri­bu­tions. There are cur­rently 85 trainees on the scheme and ap­pli­ca­tions should be made on­line at www. wfga.org.uk
