Square find

Hart­ley Botanic has been pro­duc­ing hand­made alu­minium green­houses in Eng­land since 1938 and to­day of­fers a good choice of de­signs, in­clud­ing The Grange, an un­usual square glasshouse with a high four-sided pyra­mi­dal roof and spa­cious in­te­rior. Taken on trust

De­signed in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the cu­ra­tors and gar­den­ers from the Na­tional Trust, the com­pact Hid­cote green­house in Wood Sage is both time­less and prac­ti­cal, with room for one bench and beds on two sides. It costs £10,250 from Ali­tex (01730 826900; www.ali­tex.co.uk)
