Annunciata Walton finds out what’s new in the property world

AHOME on the waterfront, particularly by the coast, is worth 62% more than those further inland, say Humberts. The study, using Land Registry figures compiled over the past two years, also shows that the North-east enjoys the highest coastal premiums (62%) and Wales the lowest (36%).

‘Rugged and charming towns such as Scarborough and Whitby [above] are becoming boutique boltholes,’ says Michael Cornish, Head of the Waterfront and Coastal Department at Humberts. ‘Desirable restaurants, proximity to the Yorkshire Moors and the steam railways make the North-east a hit with southerners—at about four hours from London, the journey time is no different to that of Devon and Cornwall and there is certainly value to be found.’
