Horsemen from history

Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

MIGHT any COUNTRY LIFE readers have stories or memorabilia of the Duke of Manchester’s Light Horse? I include a photograph of two cavalrymen on horseback (right). The Duke of Manchester’s was a volunteer regiment that existed for 22 years, but never went into battle. It consisted of local Bedfordshire and Huntingdon farmers, who each had to provide two horses and attend drills at Kimbolton Castle, Cambridgeshire. The Higgins Museum in Bedford is collating stories and photographs as little to date has been recorded. Sarah Flynn, by email
