Services to cooks and sailors

Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

IN ‘The Aga saga’ (March 15), Julie Harding gives a good introduction to this fine piece of heart-warming engineering beloved of the British farmhouse. She rightly credits Dr Gustav Dalén with its invention and, as an earlier service to mankind, he had invented the sun-valve and the flashing apparatus, both of which were installed in navigation buoys and lighthouses—a valuable contribution to safety at sea for the world’s mariners.
