Pick of the week

Country Life Every Week - - Art Market -

Patrick Jefferson of the Pimlico Road is holding an exhibition titled ‘Rome Revisited’ of furniture influenced by Antiquity originating in Irish houses, many acquired directly from the houses or from the families to which they were supplied. It is good to be reminded of the quality of Mack, Williams & Gibton, ‘famed for the individuality of their designs and use of the very finest available timbers’. Items by or attributed to them include a pair of Regency solid-rosewood library chairs from Palmerstown House, Co Kildare, the seat of the Earls of Mayo. As Mr Jefferson says, they are ‘vivacious’ with their dramatically raked backs and also ‘supremely comfortable’. The show will continue at 69, Pimlico Road, London SW1, for about a month and can be viewed at www.patrickjefferson.com
