NORFOLK is now ‘firmly on the whisky map’, says farmer and English Whisky Company owner Andrew Nelstrop, whose St George’s Distillery, in Roudham, launched the first batch of Malt ’n’ Rye, last month, a single-grain whisky, and the second in its The Norfolk range
Limited to just 1,962 bottles, Malt ’n’ Rye—which is rich in toffee, green apples, spice, milk chocolate, orange citrus and herbal lemon thyme with a long, dry finish—is one of three single-grain whiskies, alongside Farmers and the yet-to-bereleased Parched.
The cat in a bowler hat on the label is a nod to the nearby Holkham estate, where the distinctive headgear was invented as a hard hat for gamekeepers. A 500ml bottle of The Norfolk Malt ’n’ Rye costs £49. Visit www.english whisky.co.uk or telephone 01953 717939.
