The enduring appeal of Enid

Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

IREALLY enjoyed the piece about the Famous Five (April 19) and was a childhood fan of these tales of caves and smugglers, picnics and ginger beer. Granted, even in the early 1990s, they were dated, but they remain charming and no one can claim they want accurate life portraits in the age of Harry Potter. Incidentally, I looked at one of the for-adult parodies and failed to laugh once—why does everything have to be made fun of and ridiculed? I would be happy, if I had children, for them to read Enid Blyton books all day. Jennifer Shelden, Leicestershire
