Hang on to your heart and soul

Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

N your leader (April 5), you extol the timelessness of rooms that results from the integrity of their contents, which look as fresh and relevant today as when created. As someone looking for a house in the country that hasn’t had the full urban treatment, I’m beginning to despair. Concealed ceiling lights, bar stools and granite worktops have obsolescence built into them. Rather than resisting being told what to do, designers seem to have only one idea and that is to rip out the heart and character of whatever they get their hands on and leave us with identikit interiors.
