Frankenstein on film

Country Life Every Week - - Theatre -

In 1823, five years after the novel’s publication and a year after Shelley’s death, Frankenstein was transformed into a play called Presumption; or, the Fate of Frankenstein. Its success prompted other stage adaptations and, by the time the creature made its screen debut in 1910, Frankenstein was already a household name across Europe and America. However, it was Hollywood’s embrace of the tale that made it into the cultural phenomenon it is today.
