Goddess of the hunt returns
AFTER a two-year break, the Dianas of the Chase side-saddle steeplechase will return this winter, with additional classes and an international field. Such is the level of interest that organiser Philippa Holland is to run one race for thoroughbreds and one for hunters. She has also instigated a series of qualifiers ‘to keep the standard of riding as high as possible’. A number of side-saddle ‘dashes’, on the flat, have already been held (Town & Country, February 22), with more dates planned for horse shows and hunter trials around the country during the summer and autumn. Qualifiers are also being held in Ireland and the USA.
The 2017 Dianas of the Chase will be run at Ingarsby Old Hall, Leicestershire, home of racing driver Brian Henton, on Sunday, December 10. The two-mile course will be ‘as big and bold as possible,’ says Miss Holland, ‘with timber and hedges and about 16–18 jumps.’ A fun race will also be held on the day.
