The rspb is calling for pictures of puffins carrying fish in their bills from the public—or ‘puffarazzi’. this plea has been prompted by the recent decline in puffin numbers and the need for more information on what puffins feed their chicks as part of a wider conservation project.
all you have to do is visit a uk puffin colony in June or July, identify a mother or father puffin, take a picture of the bird holding a fish, note down the date and time and then submit it to the rspb website.
It’s been predicted that puffin numbers will decline as much as 50% to 70% by 2065, so why not head off to Bempton Cliffs, the Farne Islands or the Isle of may with your camera at the ready to help? Lucy Pearson
