Working on the railroad

Country Life Every Week - - Letters To The Editor -

YEARS ago, I remember a wonderful family holiday in Scotland on which we travelled from London to Inverness by Motorail—what an exciting journey it was! The tiny compartments were immaculate, with pristine white-cotton sheets. Sadly, this service came to an end some years ago. My husband and I have bought a holiday home in Caithness and it takes two days to drive the 800 miles, battling with the traffic. The Government has plans to tackle air pollution by reducing diesel vehicles on motorways and lowering the speed limit to 60mph, but is it time for a reintroduction of the great Motorail service?
